Testing Scope
Fortified Mixed Milk is a blend of milk from two or more species, such as cow, buffalo, goat, or camel, that has been enriched with essential micronutrients, primarily Vitamin A and Vitamin D, in line with the standards prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Mixed milk combines the nutritional strengths of different milk types, offering a balanced profile of proteins, fats, and minerals. Fortification further enhances its public health value by addressing widespread vitamin deficiencies, especially in children, pregnant women, and nutritionally at-risk populations.
FSSAI-Prescribed Fortification Levels:
Vitamin A: 270–450 µg RE (Retinol Equivalent) per liter
Vitamin D: 5–7.5 µg per liter
Only safe, stable, and bioavailable forms of vitamins are used, ensuring the nutrients remain effective throughout processing and shelf life. The fortification process does not affect the taste or appearance of the milk.
All fortified mixed milk products must display the official +F logo on the packaging, certifying compliance with FSSAI’s food fortification guidelines.
Fortified mixed milk serves as a versatile and cost-effective nutritional solution that promotes bone health, immunity, and overall wellness in a wide range of consumers.
Why It Matters
Verification of Fortification LevelsTo ensure that Vitamin A (270–450 µg RE/L) and Vitamin D (5–7.5 µg/L) are present within the specified limits for effective nutritional supplementation.
Nutrient Uniformity and StabilityTo confirm that the added vitamins are uniformly distributed and remain stable during processing, storage, and transport.
Compliance with Composition StandardsTo validate that the mixed milk meets FSSAI-prescribed fat and solids-not-fat (SNF) content, depending on the proportion of milk from different animal sources.
Microbiological and Contaminant SafetyTo test for harmful pathogens (e.g., Salmonella, E. coli), antibiotic residues, pesticides, and heavy metals, ensuring the product is safe for consumption.
Labeling and Packaging ComplianceTo ensure accurate labeling, including the +F fortification logo, nutrient declarations, and batch details in line with FSSAI packaging norms.
Support for Nutritional ProgramsTo confirm that fortified mixed milk used in public health or school feeding programs delivers consistent and safe micronutrient benefits to targeted populations.
