Government vs private food testing labs in Delhi

Delhi NCR has both government and private food testing laboratories. The National Food Laboratory (NFL) in Ghaziabad is owned by the Government of India, notified by FSSAI as a referral laboratory and operated by the Arbro Group under a public-private partnership. It handles referral and dispute samples from Central and State authorities and also tests samples from food businesses.

Government food testing laboratories generally analyse samples drawn and referred by regulators. A food business that needs a report in its own name for licensing, a new product, labelling or export normally uses an NABL-accredited, FSSAI-recognised private laboratory. The Delhi lab holds NABL TC-7375, valid until November 2027, with FSSAI, APEDA, EIC, Tea Board, BIS and IOPEPC recognition.

See the National Food Laboratory page for NFL’s scope, or the national food testing page for the full catalogue of methods.
