Description

Fortified Full Cream Milk is high-fat milk that has been enriched with essential micronutrients—Vitamin A and Vitamin D—in accordance with the fortification guidelines laid down by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This enriched milk offers a perfect combination of energy, creaminess, and nutritional value.

Full cream milk contains a minimum of 6.0% fat and 9.0% solids-not-fat (SNF), making it a rich source of calories, protein, and calcium. However, since vitamins A and D are often lost during processing or may be insufficient in some milk supplies, fortification helps restore and enhance their presence to support public health.

FSSAI Fortification Requirements:

  • Vitamin A: 270–450 µg RE (Retinol Equivalent) per liter

  • Vitamin D: 5–7.5 µg per liter

These vitamins are added in stable, bioavailable forms that ensure effectiveness throughout the product’s shelf life.

Fortified full-cream milk is especially beneficial for:

  • Children in growth phases

  • Pregnant and lactating women

  • Individuals with high energy or nutrient requirements

All fortified full-cream milk packaging must display the +F logo, signifying compliance with FSSAI’s food fortification standards.

By combining rich taste with added health benefits, fortified full cream milk supports bone health, vision, and immunity, making it a nutritious choice for households and institutional nutrition programs alike.

Purpose of Testing

  • Purpose of Testing for Fortified Full Cream Milk – As per FSSAI Guidelines

Testing of fortified full-cream milk is crucial to ensure it complies with the nutritional, safety, compositional, and labeling standards set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The key objectives include:

    • Verification of Micronutrient Fortification
To confirm that Vitamin A (270–450 µg RE/L) and Vitamin D (5–7.5 µg/L) are added in the correct and effective quantities as per FSSAI standards.

    • Nutrient Uniformity and Stability
To ensure the added vitamins are evenly distributed and remain stable throughout the shelf life of the product, even under varying storage conditions.

    • Compliance with Full Cream Milk Composition Standards
To validate that the milk meets FSSAI’s requirements of a minimum 6.0% fat and 9.0% SNF (solids-not-fat) for full cream milk.

    • Microbiological and Chemical Safety Checks
To test for the presence of pathogens (e.g., Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli), antibiotic residues, pesticides, and heavy metals that could pose a risk to consumer health.

    • Labeling and Packaging Accuracy
To ensure the product correctly displays the +F logo, micronutrient details, and batch information, in compliance with FSSAI packaging and labeling regulations.

    • Support for Nutritional Programs
To ensure that fortified full-cream milk used in government schemes or institutional feeding programs delivers the intended health benefits to children, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups.
