Description

UHT Fortified Cow Milk is cow’s milk that has been treated using ultra-high temperature (UHT) processing and fortified with essential micronutrients—Vitamin A and Vitamin D—by the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This product combines the natural nutritional benefits of cow milk with added vitamins for improved public health impact.

Cow milk is naturally rich in calcium, protein, and essential minerals, and is known for being easily digestible. The UHT process heats the milk to 135°C or above for a few seconds, effectively destroying pathogens and extending the milk’s shelf life up to 6–9 months without refrigeration (until opened).

FSSAI Fortification Requirements:

  • Vitamin A: 270–450 µg RE (Retinol Equivalent) per liter

  • Vitamin D: 5–7.5 µg per liter

Fortification is done using heat-stable and bioavailable forms of vitamins to ensure they remain effective even after high-temperature processing.

Key Benefits:

  • Long shelf life and convenient storage—ideal for homes and institutions

  • Improved nutritional profile with added vitamins for bone health, vision, and immunity

  • Perfect for children, the elderly, and general family consumption

  • Supports government nutrition schemes and rural supply chains

Packaging must display the +F logo, indicating compliance with FSSAI’s food fortification standards.

With its enhanced nutrient content, digestibility, and shelf stability, UHT Fortified Cow Milk is a reliable and health-boosting dairy option for both everyday use and large-scale nutritional programs.

Purpose of Testing

Purpose of Testing for UHT Fortified Cow Milk – As per FSSAI Guidelines

Testing of UHT Fortified Cow Milk is essential to ensure it meets the nutritional, safety, compositional, and labeling standards prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The key objectives of testing include:

  • Verification of Micronutrient Fortification
To confirm that Vitamin A (270–450 µg RE/L) and Vitamin D (5–7.5 µg/L) have been added accurately and within FSSAI’s permissible limits.

  • Stability of Nutrients Post-UHT Processing
To ensure the fortified vitamins remain stable, effective, and bioavailable after undergoing ultra-high temperature (UHT) treatment.

  • Uniform Distribution of Nutrients
To verify that Vitamins A and D are evenly distributed throughout the milk, ensuring consistent nutritional value in every pack.

  • Microbiological Safety and Sterility
To confirm that pathogenic microorganisms (e.g., E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella) have been fully eliminated during UHT treatment, meeting commercial sterility standards.

  • Compliance with Cow Milk Composition Standards
To ensure the milk meets FSSAI-defined values for fat content, solids-not-fat (SNF), and other compositional criteria for cow milk.

  • Labeling and Packaging Compliance
To check that packaging is aseptic and tamper-proof, and includes mandatory elements such as the +F fortification logo, nutrient declarations, batch details, and storage instructions.

  • Suitability for Public Health and Distribution Programs
To validate that the product is suitable for government nutrition schemes, school meal programs, and non-refrigerated retail environments, especially in rural or low-resource settings.
