FSSAI Notified Laboratory

FSSAI Approved Food Testing Lab | Auriga Research

An FSSAI approved food testing lab is one notified by FSSAI under Section 43 of the FSS Act 2006, and it should also hold NABL accreditation. Auriga Research’s Delhi (NABL TC-7375) and Bangalore (NABLT0726KA18518) labs hold both, so their reports are accepted for FSSAI licensing, product registration and Section 47 enforcement sampling.

What FSSAI Notification Means

FSSAI notifies labs under Section 43 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 (FSS Act 2006). Only FSSAI-notified labs can issue reports valid for regulatory purposes — FSSAI licensing, product registration, and enforcement sampling under Section 47.

FSSAI notification is the governing recognition for food testing in India under the FSS Act 2006.

Important distinction: NABL accreditation is not the same as FSSAI notification. A lab must hold BOTH to issue reports valid for FSSAI purposes. NABL accreditation alone does not qualify a lab for FSSAI-purpose reporting. Auriga holds both at Delhi and Bangalore — every report from these labs is accepted by FSSAI.

Section 43 — Lab Notification

Section 43 of the FSS Act 2006 is the statutory provision under which FSSAI notifies testing laboratories. Only notified labs can produce reports accepted for FSSAI regulatory purposes.

Section 47 — Enforcement Sampling

Section 47 of the FSS Act 2006 covers FSSAI enforcement sampling. Samples drawn under Section 47 are analysed at FSSAI-notified labs — the same notification status Auriga holds at Delhi and Bangalore.

FSSAI notification and NABL details by lab

Each Auriga food lab carries its own NABL certificate and its own FSSAI-recognised scope, matched to the methods it is accredited for.

Lab City FSSAI status NABL certificate Food scope
Delhi lab Kirti Nagar, New Delhi FSSAI notified NABL TC-7375 Food, water, food additives and packaging materials, with 9,126 accredited test entries
Bangalore lab Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru FSSAI notified NABLT0726KA18518 Food, water and microbiological testing, with a food scope of about 496 chemical parameters

The FSSAI notification letter for both labs is available for vendor qualification, due diligence, regulatory submissions and tender requirements through our gated certificate download. NABL accreditation and FSSAI notification are separate recognitions, and a lab needs both to issue reports valid for FSSAI purposes. Auriga holds both at Delhi and Bangalore.

When You Need an FSSAI-Notified Lab

Four common regulatory scenarios where the testing lab must hold FSSAI notification under Section 43, not just NABL accreditation.

FSSAI Product Registration

A product registration submitted to FSSAI requires test data from an FSSAI-notified laboratory. NABL accreditation alone does not qualify the lab for FSSAI-purpose reports — the lab must additionally be notified under Section 43.

FSSAI Licensing — FBO Application

Water test reports and food product test reports submitted as part of an FBO (Food Business Operator) FSSAI licence application must come from an FSSAI-notified lab. Auriga Delhi and Bangalore reports are accepted.

FSSAI Enforcement Sampling — Section 47

If FSSAI samples your product under Section 47 of the FSS Act 2006, the analysis is conducted at an FSSAI-notified laboratory. Voluntary parallel testing at an FSSAI-notified lab provides comparable, defensible data.

Export Documentation — APEDA and EIC

APEDA and EIC accept FSSAI-notified lab reports for export quality certification and pre-shipment documentation. The same FSSAI-notified report can support both FSSAI domestic compliance and export submissions.

List of FSSAI notified labs

FSSAI notifies laboratories under Section 43 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, and only notified labs can issue reports valid for FSSAI licensing, product registration and enforcement sampling under Section 47. FSSAI maintains the official list of notified food laboratories on its website, at fssai.gov.in.

To check whether a lab is FSSAI notified before you order a report:

  • Find the lab by name and location in the published list of notified laboratories.
  • Confirm that the tests you need fall within its notified and NABL-accredited scope.
  • Ask the lab for its FSSAI notification letter and its NABL certificate number.

A report from a lab that is accredited by NABL but not notified by FSSAI will not be valid for FSSAI regulatory purposes.
